Welcome to HP Single Mums (and More)! HPSM is an exchange for all the single parents, grandparents, and others in the wizarding world! The exchange will run in six cycles throughout the year, with a week between each cycle to catch your breath. The 2021-2022 cycle will be as follows:

FAQ
What is the minimum?

• Fic: 500 words
• Podfic: 500 words
• Art: completed line sketch (not on ruled paper)
• Comic: 3 panels
• Vid: 30 secons
• Other: use your discretion or consult with the mod

What if I want to write about Petunia as both an aunt and mother? Or, say, single dad Harry Potter? When would I do that?
Well, Petunia is both an Evans sister and an Aunt, so feel free to ask for her more than once! For Harry, you could request that in May/June, seeing as how he'd be a next gen parent, and/or you could do it in July/Aug with the single dads, and you could do it again in Sep/Aug during the free-for-all! Heck, if you wanted to request him taking in his magical nieces/nephews from Dudley, you could prompt that in Mar/April too! Feel free to sign up as many times as are applicable! The goal is more works, not hyper-restrictions!

What does "other medium" mean?
Just that! Perhaps you want to request/offer filk, or a curated character playlist, or family recipes that your single parent is passing down to their child. Go wild! When requesting, be sure to detail what kinds of "other" mediums you want in your sign-up. When offering, be aware that this is a wildcard, so only offer it if you're sure you can handle whatever requests are thrown your way!

I had a treat planned but didn't finish it in time! What do I do?
Save it for the amnesty cycle! Treats for the entire year's worth of prompts are welcome then! That's also a great time to show some love to Pinch Hitters from earlier cycles as well! You may also post works without a recipient at that time, if you have something that ended up deviating pretty far from the original request and weren't sure the original recipient would want it.

What happens if I can't finish in time?
Then you will default, and the mod will have to find a pinch hitter for your recipient. If your own creator also defaults, you will not be sent to the pinch hit list. If you default, you will be required to post a treat to the archive before you may participate in another cycle. Serial defaulting is grounds for banning.

 

Nominations:

• You may nominate up to 10 character/groupings
• Please follow the format "Solo: Petunia Dursley", or "Group: Petunia Dursley & Dudley Dursley & Harry Potter"
• You may prompt worldbuilding solo or as part of a group
• You may nominate pairings, but do remember that the focus of this exchange is for single parents. That said, stories about single parents might involve them dating again, or mourning their spouse, or blending 2 single families together, or focus on the act of leaving and becoming single. As such, pairings are allowed, but if it appears that you are abusing this to request shipfic, there may be consequences.

 

Sign-ups: Requests

• You must request at least 2, and no more than 10, character/grouping tags
• You may add up to 20 tropes or freeform tags to assist with matching. Requesting these is no guarantee you will get these tropes or themes
• You must opt into at least one of the mediums
• You must select at least one rating which you are willing to receive
• Please include your DNWs in your sign-up, or they will not be enforceable.
• Please include how you would like to make the mums single (character death, divorce, etc.) if you have a preference. If you do not specify, you are opting in to whatever your creator chooses!
• For this exchange, underage romantic or sexual relationships and incest are both considered Opt-in. Do not create them unless your recipient clearly requests them in their sign-up!

• You must offer at least 3 character/grouping tags, and may also check the box for "any"
• You may add up to 20 tropes or freeform tags to assist with matching. Offering these is no guarantee you will be matched to someone who requested them
• You must select at least one rating which you are willing to create.
• You must opt into at least one of the mediums, and may also check the box for "any"

Assignments:

• DO use at least one of your recipient's requested characters/groupings
• DO check out their requested prompts, tropes, and freeforms, though you are not bound to include all of them
• DO NOT include any of your recipient's DNWs! This is a banable offense.
• DO NOT be a jerk
